Location: Nottinghamshire NG1 1GF
Salary: Not specified
Updated: 17th January 2022
Are you experienced in baker’s yeast fermentation and bioprocess production? Do you have extensive microbial physiology expertise?
If so, you could play an integral part in developing the next generation of yeast bioprocess technology for industrial biologics manufacturing.
Phenotypeca is building the ‘go-to’ platform for the development of baker’s yeast strains for industrial-scale manufacture of vaccines, therapeutics, and other recombinant proteins. Our mission is to make these treatments more affordable to all who need them, not just those that live in the wealthiest nations.
As part of our growth and having successfully won new projects that require fermentation development, we now have a new opportunity to lead our Fermentation Operations team and support biopharmaceutical production strain selection and process development for research, grant, IP and commercial projects.
Within this R&D role, you will be involved in optimising high-cell density fermentation of baker’s yeast for high-yield recombinant protein production and technology transfer for cGMP manufacturing. High-throughput fermentation screening methods will be used for strain selection from diverse genetic libraries during upstream process development. Strong internal leadership and partnering with external providers will be required to establish efficient in-house fermentation facilities for both R&D and commercial operations.
The role will be based between our sites at BioCity Nottingham and initially also at the University of Nottingham. On some occasions, UK and international travel will be required to attend conferences and customer/partner visits.
In return, we offer a competitive salary based on your experience, skills, and qualifications; 24 days holiday plus bank holidays (England); additional benefits could include performance bonus and possible share options after 12 months.
In addition, you will have the opportunity to work with a highly experienced and well-respected team with over 200 years of collective experience in advanced genomics, molecular biology, protein chemistry and fermentation of yeast in biopharmaceutical products such as vaccines, diagnostics and other recombinant proteins.
Phenotypeca is a rapidly growing yeast research and commercially focussed Biofoundry business, currently working on bioprocess development for vaccines, diagnostics and therapeutic protein production.
We have the world’s most extensive collection of Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains for industrial recombinant protein production, comprising up to a billion genetically distinct strains. Phenotypeca optimises biologics production strains to make treatments more affordable and available at the right quality to those who need them.
We are a focused yet fun company driven by performance, embracing strong business ethics and scientific excellence. Above all, we want our people to be happy and healthy.
